Nana Kofi (Friday Born) Koranteng was born in Accra Ghana, on the west coast of Africa. Affectionately called Nana Obofour Kofi Otuo, (The Black Hunter of Africa) by his friends, began his music career with the Ghana Broadcasting Co-operation Band (GBC), led by the late Sammy Lartey, (one of the greatest African musicians). He learned how to play the guitar from Mr. Art Bennin.
Kofi (The Black Hunter of Africa) is a song writer, guitarist, singer and also a great performer. Kofi is one of the greatest living highlife musicians from Africa. His stage presence is a “MUST SEE”. In the early 70’s He released his first album named OBETEN KOKUROKO, recorded at the GFI (Ghana films). A second album followed in 1984 entitled “ASHAWO GIRLS VERSUS LAGOS STREETS” when Kofi was living in Lagos, Nigeria, Produced by Fashion Power and Sons.
Soon after migrating to Canada in 1986, Kofi formed his band named “THE SIKAGUAKOFI BAND” in Montreal. The Band performed at various music festivals including, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Nuits d’Afrique festival and many clubs in Montreal and its suburbs.
His passion for African music is so deep. Kofi his always singing or playing his guitar and composing. He is a rare jewel, hard to find. Kofi is also nicknamed SIKAGUAKOFI meaning "Kofi the Golden Stool".
To keep his music passion flowing, Kofi (The Black Hunter of Africa) continued writing, performing and recording. His third album (How Are You), Produced by Brian Quaye at Diaspora Production Studios, will soon be released in 2011.
Kofi (The Black Hunter of Africa) hopes this new album will keep him on his journey as a great musician and performer.
