Drawing some of the most influential and ground-breaking Afro-centric musicians and musical acts on the scene, Afrikadey!’s legendary music festival line-up presents iconic hit makers alongside burgeoning new up-and-comers.

More fun than just an afternoon stroll in the park!

The Afrikadey! 2012 celebrations run for the entire week leading up the mainstage event at Prince’s Island on August 11th!!!

Kick off with our Opening Gala – Sunday August 5th at 6:30pm

An urban chic evening of art and philanthropy at The Westin Hotel (320 4 Ave SW). Join us for cocktails, a delicious three-course dinner and lively conversation while swinging to the brassy African dance rhythms of the Kassade Band. Swoon to the smooth jazz poetry stylings of Mr. Malcolm Mooney and grab your honey for a trip around the dancefloor as Chris Copeland plays his steel drums accompanied by keyboardist Brian Quaye. A host of dynamic MC’s will be your guide to fun and fashion as you preview next seasons sensations and maybe even bid on some tempting African art-pieces for your abode.

Usher in the 2012 Afrikadey! Festival and support independent artists working in Calgary. This evening will help to raise funds towards Foggo’s adaptation of Things Fall Apart by playwright Chinua Achebe!

French and English-speaking audiences alike will delight in the world-class entertainment that will be the center of attention throughout Saturday’s mainstage performances on Prince’s Island.

Tapping into his Guinean roots, legendary singer-songwriter/guitarist Alpha Yaya Diallo will regale concert-goers with his playful stage presence and nimble-fingered mastery of the acoustic and electric guitar. The heir to melodic bloodlines that merge Malenke, Sousou and Foulani traditions, Alpha puts his own groovy spin on modern African soul while showing a powerful appreciation for regional rhythms.
